SPLENDID SUMMER GARDENS & RHS TATTON FLOWER SHOW (EGT6)

Sunday 15 July to Sunday 22 July 2012

The six magnificent gardens and areas of this July tour include Dunham Massey, Levens Hall and a seven lake tour of the English Lake District, Arley Hall garden, the Peak District palace of Chatsworth, Wollerton Old Hall garden in Shropshire and the stupendous garden of Bodnant in North Wales. 

A highlight in the programme includes a day at the RHS Tatton Flower Show

    Transfer to host families.
Monday 16/7 INTRODUCTION TO MANCHESTER
Morning

English conversation class and garden   briefing Introduction to Manchester
Coffee break.
Discover Manchester, orientation tour of the   city centre with its impressive Victorian and modern buildings and new landscaping.

Afternoon

Dunham Massey, historic garden and   landscape.

Evening

Dinner with host family
Tuesday  17/7 CHATSWORTH
Morning

Garden briefing Town and Country – an Introduction to Chatsworth and the Devonshire Family
Depart for Chatsworth, via the pretty village of Tideswell in the Peak District National Park

Afternoon Chatsworth is a 17th century ‘palace’ with a rich collection of art and antique furniture.  The house, set in 400 hectares of ‘Capability’ Brown landscaped park, is home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. The gardens at Chatsworth are ‘Pleasure Grounds’ on a vast scale with fountains and avenues, arboreta, a maze, a baroque cascade and sculpture.

The Herbaceous Border – Introduction to Arley
  13.30

Visit to Arley Hall via the pretty Cheshire village of Great Budworth.   In July Arley’s renowned double herbaceous border reaches its peak of perfection.

Thursday 19/7 RHS TATTON FLOWER SHOW
Morning

The RHS July Flower Show takes place on the glorious country estate of Tatton Park and is the largest of the RHS shows after Hampton Court.  The many show gardens will include those prepared by the finalists in the RHS Young Designers of the Year competition. The floral marquees and stands include flower arranging and over 90 trade exhibitors

Evening Royal Exchange Theatre visit: Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Friday 20/7 WOLLERTON OLD HALL - COTTAGE GARDEN
Morning

English conversation class and garden briefing.
A  Gardener’s A to Z   
Depart for Wollerton Old Hall.

Afternoon

Wollerton Old Hall is a great garden of  20th century choice influences recalling the Arts and Crafts Movement       
Return via Bridgemere Garden World, a vast garden centre!

Evening

Dinner with host family / optional Curry night at Sangam restaurant, Didsbury.

Saturday 21/7 WALES AND BODNANT GARDEN
Day

Whole day excursions to North Wales including Conwy Castle and the celebrated terraced garden of Bodnant in the Conwy Valley

20.00 Farewell Party at Moor Cottage with host families.
Sunday 12/7 DEPARTURES
