This
course examines the birth of the Industrial Revolution. You will visit some
of the 18th and 19th century sites, including
Ironbridge in the beautiful Severn Valley where in 1709
Abraham Darby first mass produced iron, Quarry Bank Mill,
one of the earliest cotton factories still powered by a
gigantic water wheel (1784) and the world famous Wedgwood
factory in The Potteries. The tour also includes a day exploring
the English Lake District.
'Revolution' is designed for amateur
historians, history teachers and others who enjoy exploring
interesting aspects of history with a knowledgeable guide.
You don't have to be an expert to enjoy this course.
You need only an enquiring mind and a willingness to explore
the sites of industrial archaeology in the region where the
Industrial Revolution began.
